High Quality, Accessible Care

Physician Recruitment and Retention

Many people in Monterey County have trouble finding a doctor or getting an appointment to see one. Philanthropic support enables us to be competitive in recruiting the highest-quality physicians and specialists to our region. Our community expects and deserves the best care and it is our intent to continue exceeding those expectations.

Outpatient Pavilion

With plans to continue recruiting primary care physicians and specialists, a new, state-of-the-art outpatient care center is needed. A new facility will help us meet patient needs and attract and keep top physicians. We envision a 60,000-square-foot facility, providing multidisciplinary care in Ryan Ranch, to serve our patients from throughout the region.

Emergency Care

The complexity and number of cases seen in Community Hospital’s busy Emergency department requires access to high-quality specialists. The fund for emergency care supports continuous access to highly trained physicians from 18 unique specialties, on-call 24 hours a day/seven days a week for those in need.

Care for the Older Patient

With 50 percent of our patients over the age of 65, specialized care for our aging population is needed. Funding of care for the older patient supports:

  • Nurses Improving Care for Health Systems Elders (NICHE), a training and certification program for nurses
  • Outpatient stroke rehabilitation services and support groups
  • The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
  • The cancer survivorship program

Palliative Medicine Service

Our comprehensive palliative care program provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to our patients with chronic, life-limiting illnesses. Recognizing the importance of palliative care to our community, the program is expanding to include outpatient services. Support of the palliative medicine fund can make a meaningful difference for hundreds of people annually.

Tyler Heart Institute

Heart disease is the number one killer in Monterey County, making it imperative for Community Hospital’s Tyler Heart Institute to invest in the most advanced technology. Tyler Heart Institute partners with an impressive team of cardiovascular specialists with expertise in prevention, coronary intervention, electrophysiology, and surgery.

Comprehensive Cancer Center

Community Hospital is committed to providing the most current treatment technologies, including radiation therapy, as well as extensive support programs, to treat the whole person and their family, not just the disease. More people are living with cancer, making navigation programs, support groups, classes, and our cancer survivorship series ever more important. None of these services are covered by insurance, but are vital to healing.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a major cause of heart disease and stroke, and is the leading cause of kidney failure, non-traumatic lower-limb amputation, and blindness among adults. From 2008–10, nearly 15 percent of all deaths in Monterey County were related to diabetes. Research shows that diabetes may be prevented, delayed, or reversed, or its long-term consequences mitigated with effective education and self-management. That’s why Montage Health continues to invest in diabetes education and care, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We are part of a unique countywide collaboration focused on diabetes screening, education, and treatment.
