If you’re struggling with addiction, it takes courage to ask for help. Here, you’ll find a team that understands substance use is complex and personal—and can touch many parts of your life—so you don’t have to face it alone.
The Recovery Center is a place where you can connect with others who are navigating similar challenges. Together, you’ll work with experienced providers who focus on helping you reduce or stop substance use and address the factors that make recovery difficult. Progress happens one step at a time, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Program schedule
You don’t have to put your life on hold to get help with substance use. Treatment at the Recovery Center is designed to fit into your daily routine, allowing you to continue working or attending school.
The program takes place in the evenings, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m. Most people attend 20–25 sessions, but it’s not the same for everyone. You can continue with additional sessions as needed.
About the Recovery Center
Our outpatient program offers group-based care for adults facing addiction, along with support for the people who love them.
Your first visit
Reaching out for an evaluation is a big step. You may feel nervous or unsure about what to say. Our goal is to make the process straightforward and supportive. You’ll be able to ask questions and get clear answers from experts who care. Together, we’ll discuss:
- Your health and substance use history, including the substances you use and any past treatments
- Withdrawal symptoms you’re experiencing
- Services we offer and what treatment may look like for you
- Insurance coverage and next steps
- Referrals to other local agencies, if additional support could be helpful
Group-based care
Group sessions offer an opportunity to ask questions and talk openly about what’s working and what isn’t. You may find that listening to others’ experiences helps you better understand your own. You’ll learn more about:
- Evidence-based strategies to help you reach and maintain sobriety
- Healthy ways to cope with stress and difficult emotions
- How nutrition and physical activity can support recovery
- How substance use can affect your physical health, mental well-being, and relationships
- Ways to recognize situations that increase risk and reduce the chance of relapse
We also include random drug testing to support accountability and help you stay on track with your recovery goals.
Personalized treatment plan
Everyone has different experiences, challenges, and goals — and your care should reflect your unique needs. You can count on our team to work with you on a plan that supports both your recovery and overall health.
For some people, substance use is linked to other mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, or bipolar disorder. Often called dual diagnosis, this combination plays an important part in how we approach care. Rather than treating substance use and mental health separately, we look at how they affect each other. Your plan may include:
- Individual therapy to better understand substance use and build healthy coping skills
- Medication to ease mental health and withdrawal symptoms
- Nutrition counseling to improve physical health
- Regular check-ins with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner
As part of the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, the Recovery Center is closely connected with our partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and inpatient programs. That makes it easy to adjust your level of care if needs change.
A well-rounded, expert team
Our close-knit team of experts collaborates to support every aspect of your recovery. This group includes:
- Behavioral or addiction specialists, who address the underlying issues driving substance use
- Psychiatrists, who assist with co-occurring mental health conditions
- Substance use disorder counselors, who facilitate group sessions
Family involvement
Recovery can be easier when the people closest to you understand what you’re going through. With your permission, we encourage family involvement as part of your care. Twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays), loved ones may:
- Join for educational sessions to learn more about substance use disorder and recovery
- Attend separate family group meetings, where they can ask questions, share experiences, and learn how to provide support at home
Continued recovery support
Finishing the program is a major milestone, but we stay involved in your journey for as long as you need us. Continued recovery support helps you settle back into daily life and maintain the progress you’ve made. You and your family can participate in our year-long aftercare program, as well as our longer-term alumni group.
