Mental health evaluation
A mental health evaluation is the first step in recognizing what your child is going through. We talk with you and your child, ask questions, and use simple tools to learn more. This way, we can understand all the different parts of their life, including their emotions, actions, relationships, and overall health. From there, we can make a diagnosis and create a care plan that’s right for them.
Neuropsychological testing
We may use special tests to measure how your child’s brain works. These tests can help us diagnose autism, ADHD, learning differences, and speech disorders.
Mental fitness
We weave mental fitness into everything we do at Ohana. The core idea of mental fitness is that mental health conditions are treatable and often preventable. Just like physical fitness, mental fitness grows stronger with regular care and practice.
We’ll help your child work on healthy mental fitness habits related to sleep, nutrition, mindfulness, exercise, and social connection. Our goal is to give them the mental health tools to use whenever they need them.
Perinatal program
Having a baby is a life-changing experience — one filled with joy, but also with moments of uncertainty and doubt. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed as you navigate changes in your routines, relationships, and emotions. But you don’t have to go through it without support. Our perinatal mental health services help new moms through pregnancy and postpartum. We offer:
- Psychiatric care for mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression
- One-on-one therapy sessions
- Support groups with others who understand
Outpatient services
Many children do well with regular outpatient visits to Ohana. After thoughtful evaluation, we’ll help find the best care approaches for your child. These may include:
- Family counseling and education
- Group therapy and opportunities for connection
- Medication and symptom management
- Occupational therapy to support everyday activities and development
- One-on-one therapy for tailored emotional support
Family care management
We’ll pair you with a family care manager who will continue to offer support throughout your child’s time at Ohana. They’ll help you set up a case management session, schedule appointments, review progress, answer questions, and make sure everything is on track.
You’ll also receive a family road map. This easy-to-follow guide includes all the information you need in one place, such as:
- Family care manager’s contact information
- Scheduled appointments
- Suggested community and group resources
- Treatment recommendations
Classes and events
We host a variety of community classes, support groups, and events that cover topics related to mental fitness, parenting, and more.

Holistic healing
Not every child processes their experiences through words or traditional treatments. For some, healing happens through movement, creativity, and connection. That’s why we offer holistic therapies in our higher levels of care, including:
- Art therapy
- Gardening Music therapy
- Nutrition support
- Occupational therapy
- Pet therapy
By engaging different senses and parts of the brain, we can help your child grow in ways that feel natural and meaningful to them.
Your child’s care will take place in a supportive setting with treatments that work for their needs. We offer several options, including care and prevention education at the Ohana campus — a peaceful, healing space.
Your child may benefit from:
Prevention programs
Strong mental health support starts in the community. We work to educate kids and families at Ohana, Monterey County schools, pediatric practices, and local organizations. Our classes and programs cover mental fitness, youth drug use prevention, perinatal support, and more.
Outpatient treatment
Our outpatient program is helpful if your child can manage daily life but needs regular sessions to address specific conditions.
Intensive outpatient program
If your child has a severe anxiety or mood disorder, they may need extra support in our intensive outpatient program (IOP). They’ll come to Ohana after school for regular care three days a week and attend group sessions alongside peers with similar conditions.
Partial hospitalization program
In the partial hospitalization program (PHP), your child receives care during the school day. This program can be especially helpful if your child has severe symptoms that affect their ability to learn in a typical school setting. They’ll be able to build skills in individual and group sessions.
Residential program
Some children get the most benefit from living onsite at the Ohana campus for a few weeks. Our residential program is not a locked, inpatient psychiatric unit. Instead, it’s an engaging, camp-like setting where your child can grow and thrive. We involve your family as part of the program, so your child stays surrounded by the people who love them most.
Crisis stabilization unit
If your child has a mental health emergency, our crisis stabilization unit (CSU) offers care during a short stay (usually about a day). This way, your family has time to get the right services and referrals for outpatient care. The CSU connects to the Emergency department at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
Safe Harbor program
The Safe Harbor program helps children with severe distress, including self-harm or thoughts of suicide. We will keep your child safe and provide immediate support while we connect them to a higher level of care.
