Physician Scholars program

If you’re a doctor, get support to grow your skills, advance in your field, or teach others in your discipline. Apply for a Montage Health Foundation Physician Scholars grant.

What’s a Physician Scholars grant?

Funded by Montage Health Foundation, the Physician Scholars program offers grants of $10,000 to $25,000 for up to two years to support the following types of activities:

• Taking a short sabbatical to conduct research or write and edit a clinical paper
• Attending a conference, workshop, training, or off-site, extended education program to advance clinical or leadership skills
• Bringing a physician from outside our organization on-site to teach or learn new or advanced techniques
• Training future physicians, nurse practitioners, and others in advanced practices and procedures used at Montage Health

Who can apply?

Consider applying if you meet all of the following criteria:

• Are an independent, private practice, Montage Medical Group, or hospital-based physician
• Are a member of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s medical staff in good standing
• Demonstrate leadership or service to the medical or broader community. Examples include holding a hospital leadership role, such as department chair or vice chair, serving on a committee, or doing volunteer work

Does every applicant receive funding?

Due to a limited number of awards, applying does not guarantee you’ll receive funding.

Award process, timeline, and application

You have the opportunity to submit a proposal every spring and fall.

Step 1: Online proposal

Complete and submit an online proposal by the application deadline. Attach your curriculum vitae (CV) or current biography and a letter of recommendation from a peer leader (member of the Medical Executive Committee, chief medical officer, program medical director, etc.).

Step 2: Interview

The Montage Health Foundation’s Grants Subcommittee will review your proposal and may contact you to request an interview.

Step 3: Award notification

Award winners will receive a letter from Montage Health Foundation.

Step 4: Outcomes reporting

If your proposal receives funding, you must provide a written progress report about your use of the award six months after you receive it. You may also need to:

• Write and potentially present an annual report to the Grants Subcommittee and Montage Health Foundation donors
• Write a final outcome report if your award funds multiple years of work

Step 5: Community awareness

Count on us to spread the word about your accomplishments. You’ll be the topic of a news release with your photo that we’ll submit to local media and share via Montage Health’s social media accounts and website.
