Emergency doctor John Ellison receives Physician Recognition Award

MONTEREY, Calif. — Dr. John Ellison was honored with the Physician Recognition Award for 2019 by his peers on the medical staff at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
Ellison has practiced at Community Hospital since 1995, caring for thousands of patients in the Emergency department. He has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as chief of staff from 2007-2008. Ellison was honored October 24 at the annual meeting of the hospital’s medical staff and presented the award by Dr. Matthew Fritsch, the current chief of staff.
In addition to his service at Community Hospital, Ellison has been very active in the community, serving as medical director of the Big Sur Marathon for more than 20 years and on the board of Carmel Unified School District for a decade. Ellison is also active in leadership and education in his local congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Ellison graduated from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and completed his internship at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, and his residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. He and his wife Kristine have four children, all currently attending Brigham Young University.
