Finding kinship in survivorship: Cancer Survivors’ Day 2023

Cancer survivors day 2022

Community members impacted by cancer will come together to connect and celebrate with a day of food, fun, and education at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s 25th Cancer Survivors’ Day, made possible with grant support from Montage Health Foundation and the Safeway Foundation. The free, in-person event recognizes and appreciates those who are living with and beyond cancer, and those who have lost someone to cancer.

Approximately 500 attendees are expected, including cancer survivors, their family members, and the medical community and vendors who support and treat cancer patients.

Educational presentations, a barbeque hosted by local doctors, therapy dogs, a hands-on art project, music, giveaways, and more are included in this free event put on by the hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, celebrating positive health outcomes for the community.

“Being a cancer survivor is something to celebrate. Sharing kinship with other survivors in the community is healing, inspiring, and puts the resilience and good health of our community proudly on display,” said Phillip Williams, Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Diabetes Services at Community Hospital.

A Blue Zones Project educational presentation will start the day at 11 a.m. at the Monterey Peninsula College Lecture Forum, sharing tips on how to live a long, fulfilling life. Lunch will be provided from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the north end of campus near the Library and Technology Center.

The celebration also receives support from the Community Benefit program at Community Hospital that provided $182.9 million in total community support in 2022.
