...We see a lot of information on social media and a lot of it is not necessarily accurate. A lot of patients compare themselves...that’s damaging because not everybody's pregnancy, not everybody’s menopause journey is going to be the same.

—Dr. Daphne Papathomas, OBGYN, Montage Medical Group

In this month’s Medical Minute, Dr. Daphne Papathomas, OBGYN, Montage Medical Group offers guidance on where women should focus their attention when it comes to their healthcare.

Papathomas warns against turning to social media for health information.

“I think we see a lot of information on social media and a lot of it is not necessarily accurate. A lot of patients compare themselves...that’s damaging because not everybody's pregnancy, not everybody’s menopause journey is going to be the same,” said Papathomas.

She says patients should turn to their doctors when they have questions about their healthcare.

When it comes to menopause, the average age is 51: “People might not know, or it kind of sneaks up on you.” According to Papathomas, eating a healthy diet and exercising daily can make the menopause journey easier and more comfortable.

Papathomas’ top piece of advice? “The number one thing is just to do the best you can do.”
