Committed to working with the community to reduce overdoses, improve access to addiction treatment, and increase drug abuse prevention, Dr. Reb Close and Dr. Casey Grover, Emergency department doctors at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and leaders of Prescribe Safe, participated in a Town Hall discussion at Pacific Grove Unified School District on March 28, 2022, focusing on Fentanyl and its impact on our youth and the community.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, 42% of pills tested for fentanyl contained at least 2 mg of fentanyl (which is considered a lethal dose). Between January 2020 and January 2021, overdose deaths involving opioids rose 38.1%. Today, Fentanyl has killed more people than the COVID-19 pandemic, and victims are getting younger.
