Meet Diane Dobrante, cancer patient navigator volunteer
Gratitude is a powerful motivator. Diane Dobronte is inspired to volunteer as a patient navigator for Community Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center as a way to give back for what she considers “priceless support” from her own patient navigator during her cancer journey. As a cancer survivor, she knows the feelings of confusion and fear that can arise upon receiving a cancer diagnosis. Now, as a Montage Health Foundation patient navigator, she has the opportunity to assist others through their own cancer journey, providing emotional support, assistance accessing care, and navigation support through the healthcare system. She recognizes the sense of support, trust, and intimacy she can offer another cancer patient.
From my own cancer experience, plus subsequent training as a cancer patient navigator, I can listen and help people overcome barriers to care that can seem insurmountable at the time, creating the same remarkable and unique bond I experienced with my own navigator.

Dobronte understands that, having reached the point in her own journey where she has the opportunity to volunteer her heart and her time on behalf of others, creates a sense of being an essential part of her community, which supports her own well-being and centeredness.
“I recommend any members in our community who are interested in volunteering their experience and their time, to join us,” Dobronte says. “And I advise you to come, equipped with your curiosity, compassion, and willingness to learn. And please be open to volunteering wherever you’re needed.”
